The Use of The Direct Method To Improve Speaking Skills in Arabic Language Learning For Second-Grade Students at Al-Wathan Islamic Junior High School Larangan Perreng Pragaan Sumenep

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Direct Method in improving speaking skills (maharah kalam) in Arabic language learning for Grade 2 students at Al-Wathan Junior High School, Largan, Fringe, Somnib. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation of teaching activities. The data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach focusing on the learning processes and outcomes. The findings of the study indicate that the Direct Method, which emphasizes active interaction and practice in speaking Arabic, contributes to the enhancement of students' speaking skills. Through this method, students engage in dialogues, ask and answer questions, and conduct conversations in everyday life contexts, enabling them to understand the communicative use of Arabic. Students also demonstrated improvements in vocabulary acquisition, accurate pronunciation, and confidence in public speaking. The effectiveness of this method is influenced by several factors, including students' active participation in the learning process, teachers' creativity in designing communication-based materials, and the creation of a classroom environment supportive of speaking practice. Challenges in implementing this method include variations in students' proficiency levels, requiring teachers to adopt differentiated teaching strategies. The study concludes that the Direct Method is effective in teaching Arabic to enhance speaking skills for Grade 2 students at Al-Wathan Junior High School. The study recommends the sustainable application of the Direct Method, supported by teacher training and the development of appropriate teaching materials.
