Abstrak

This article discusses the concept of religious plurality in the context of a pluralistic society, especially in Indonesia. Plurality refers to diversity or pluralism which includes aspects of ethnicity, race, religion, culture and language. Indonesia, as an archipelagic country with more than 17,000 islands, is a clear example of a multicultural society that is rich in diversity. While plurality can be a source of strength and unity, it also brings challenges, such as the potential for interreligious and social conflict. Education plays an important role in fostering attitudes of tolerance, mutual respect and inclusiveness to overcome these challenges. Plurality education aims to develop critical understanding, mutual respect, and the ability to communicate effectively between individuals from various backgrounds. The main challenges in dealing with religious plurality include exclusivism, claims of absolute truth, and politicization of religion. The solutions offered include creating a theocentric and dialogic discourse to achieve understanding and harmony. Opportunities from religious plurality, if managed well, can create healthy inter-religious relations and strengthen national unity. This article highlights the importance of education and dialogue in building a harmonious and inclusive society amidst existing diversity.
