The Role of Teachers in Enhancing Student Creativity through Thematic Learning in Elementary Madrasas

Creativity is a key 21st-century skill that needs to be cultivated from the primary education level, including in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic elementary schools). However, current classroom practices in MI still tend to emphasize cognitive outcomes rather than fostering students’ creative thinking abilities. This study aims to explore the teacher’s role in enhancing students’ creativity through the implementation of thematic learning. The research employed a library research method by reviewing and analyzing relevant literature such as books, scientific journals, and empirical studies published within the last five years, sourced from Google Scholar and Sinta databases. The research instrument consisted of a literature review sheet focusing on indicators of teacher roles, creativity aspects (fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration), and the application of thematic learning in MI. The study subjects included empirical findings related to creativity and thematic instruction. The results indicate that teachers play a crucial role as designers, implementers, and evaluators who can create a creative, collaborative, and engaging learning environment. It is concluded that innovative and integrative thematic learning serves as an effective approach to fostering students’ creative potential in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah
