Abstract

  • Reading and writing skills are the main foundation of the learning process in elementary schools. However, the facts on the ground show that many students still experience difficulties in mastering these basic literacy skills. Based on observations at SDN 2 Sananwetan, it was found that the majority of second-grade students were not yet able to read and write independently, and some did not even recognize letters well. This study aims to analyze the role of elementary school teachers in improving students' reading and writing skills through the implementation of individual guidance and the use of audiovisual media. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that teachers played an active role in providing personal guidance to students who had difficulty reading and writing, and utilized audiovisual media in the form of educational videos and interactive presentations to strengthen conceptual understanding. The implementation of these strategies proved effective in increasing student motivation, participation, and literacy skills. These findings emphasize the importance of teacher creativity in adapting learning strategies that are appropriate to the characteristics and needs of students in the Independent Curriculum era.
